Although no x-ray photons are detected in this region, astronomers know from observations at other wavelengths that there is a great deal of matter here. X-rays, like visible photons, do not easily penetrate large amounts of material. Because this is the densest part of the cloud core, all x-ray photons from sourcesthe cloud are blocked from us.
